A tribute to the 20th century's foremost video art pioneer and avant-garde visionary Nam June Paik with a screening of Global Groove (1973), a groundbreaking and definitive work in the history of video art. Paik said, "If we could compile a weekly TV festival made up of music and dance from every county, and distributed it free-of-charge round the world via the proposed common video market, it would have a phenomenal effect on education and entertainment." Paik's innovations in the medium of video continue to reveal their radical impact and lasting influence on the production of contemporary art, mass media and global communications.
Screening as part of KAFFNY URBAN 2011, hosted by Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky. Presented by KAFFNY (Korean American Film Festival New York) in collaboration with WHITE BOX. Curated by Susie Lim.
