Simon Fujiwara (b. 1982, London, England) lives and works in Berlin and Mexico City and creates novels, lectures, performances, and installations that involve his personal biography. He plays with the role of the artist as itinerant globetrotter and multi-cultural guru, acknowledging a collective desire for exotic or foreign narratives, without casting judgment. Fujiwara’s work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions internationally such as MUSAC, León, Spain (2010); 29th São Paulo Biennial, Brazil (2010); 53rd Venice Biennale, Italy (2009); Bringing Up Knowledge, Impersonator, MAK Center for Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2009), and The Architecture Foundation, London. He recently received the 2010 Frieze Projects Cartier Award for emerging artists.
