Juan Betancurth

New York-based artist Juan Betancurth creates mixed media works exploring family dynamics, Catholicism, Santeria, and Witchcraft. Major exhibitions include Splatterpool Gallery, New York (2011); El Museo del Barrio, New York (2011); Local Project, New York (2009, 2008); Queen Museum of Art, New York (2008); and Garage Gallery, Bogotá (2004).

Juan Betancurth blurs dreamlife, memory and the present through sculpture, installation and performance. He creates installations to frame his performance work and draws upon poetry, witchcraft, religious rites and domestic routines to both re-configure roles within family and offer a place of community to participants. Born in Manizales, Colombia, Juan now resides in Brooklyn, NY.
