iona rozeal brown
iona rozeal brown (b. 1966, Washington, DC) lives and works in New York City. Using cross-cultural appropriation as a point of departure for her work, brown’s drawings and paintings pull from a variety of Japanese artistic styles—the flattened perspective of traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e prints and the exaggerated features of popular manga comics. brown’s work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland, OH (2010); Goff + Rosenthal, Berlin (2008); High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA (2007); The Studio Museum of Harlem, New York (2003), and Zinc Gallery, Stockholm (2002).
